Hands-Free Cell Phone Use Can Distract Drivers
Cell phone use can distract drivers enough to cause an accident, even if the driver is using a hands-free phone.
A new study, that involved using brain-imaging, suggests that just listening to a phone call is distracting to the brain. “Drivers need to keep not only their hands on the wheel; they also have to keep their brains on the road,” said lead researcher Dr. Marcel Just, of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

Of course, everything that you do in car that is not changing gears, braking or accelerating will disturb your concentrated driving.
If you have three kids on the back seats they distract your brain much more than a hands-free cell phone. I think this study maybe is only useful for people who want to forbid any cell phone usage in cars. In my opinion, this is nonsense. Holding your cell in your hand is really dangerous and must be forbidden. But something that just needs a little effort of your brain..?
